Nicaragua celebrated its National Pavilion Day Tuesday at the Shanghai World Expo with a renewed spirit to boost the development of its trade, handicrafts and tourism, authorities said.

Emilio Zambrana, spokesman for the Nicaraguan Institute of Culture, told Xinhua on Tuesday that Nicaragua was aimed at showcasing its cultural and national identity at the Expo in boosting trade, culture and tourism ties between China and other countries.

Celebrations included a performance of the folklore ballet "Macehualt," in which the typical Nicaraguan culture was shown.

The Expo "offers Nicaragua an opportunity to achieve a cultural exchange with this large eastern culture during the celebration of Nicaragua's National Pavilion Day," said Zambrano.

The Nicaragua Pavilion also features a variety of its tourism attractions and export products such as rum, coffee and tobacco.

The Shanghai Expo, with the theme of "Better City, Better Life," opened on May 1 and will end on Oct. 31. Over 240 countries and regions are participating in the Shanghai Expo.Source: Xinhua
